Ready, Set, Grow

Calgary is not only a good place to live, but one that is positioned to grow, especially the downtown core, says an inner-city real estate expert.

"It's a clean, new and safe downtown," says Calvin Buss, president of Buss Marketing.

These opportunities for lifestyle and economic growth will attract people to the city and, in particular, to inner-city living:

-Calgary has the second highest number of head offices in Canada;

-It has the highest amount of commercial office space per capita in North America;

-It has the largest pathway system on the continent, including along two rivers that run through the heart of the city;

-The largest percentage of a workforce on the continent (29 per cent) works in the downtown core;

-The city has one of the youngest populations. In 2006 Calgarians had the second lowest median age in Canada -- 35.4 years. Only Saskatoon's was lower at 35.1, according to Statistics Canada;

-The downtown core is diverse with not only retail and office space in abundance, but more housing, parks such as Prince's Island, the zoo, the Saddledome, restaurants and entertainment venues, as well as the two rivers and a rapid transit system that runs through the heart of the city.
